Week 11: Landing Page Optimization & Basic SEO

Running a successful business online requires considering and putting into place many things. This week's lesson on search engine optimization, or SEO, and optimizing your sites landing page was particularly insightful. Key points to successful optimization include making sure your landing page provides what is promised in any Google Ads you might have. An article from Rand Fishkin on moz.com, suggests that the landing page should also have "consistent, fresh and engaging content" and be "uniquely valuable", among other things. It is also important that the keywords for your Google Ads are optimized for certain pages within your site. It should make sense and be applicable to that specific page. The wording used within each page, title, heading and links on your site are important for optimization. Those words should be the best words for your specific site. Using Google Ads and Google Analytics can help with that. I also learned this week that a site should be unlocked for crawler / bots so that search engines can glean info from your site to use to improve your rankings and ability for your site to be more visible to people using a search engine. Having a site with a really amazing user experience, or UX, is also helpful for optimization. A well-designed site can increase your ranking and it will be more enjoyable for your user. So, there is a lot to think about and lots to do to have a successfully optimized site.
